The exceptional Austrian duo BartolomeyBittmann, consisting of cellist Matthias Bartolomey and violinist-mandola player Klemens Bittmann, seamlessly blends classical music with jazz, folk influences, and the raw energy of rock. Their performances and improvisations often turn into an explosion of emotions and passionate, free-spirited musicianship that leaves no listener indifferent. A devoted fan of the duo, renowned conductor Nikolaus Harnoncourt, once described their music as “wonderfully crafted and astonishingly performed!”
The duo was brought together by their love for their instruments and a passion for exploring new sounds. BartolomeyBittmann takes the classical cello, violin, and mandola down an innovative musical path, combining the spontaneity and improvisation of jazz with pulsating grooves, electrifying virtuosity, and intimate lyrical ballads.
In 2022, BartolomeyBittmann was honored with the German Record Critics’ Award (Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik) in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland for their fourth album “Zehn”, released by the prestigious record label Naxos. The album was described as: “If you don’t see who’s playing on stage, you might think you’re hearing the Mahavishnu Orchestra—or at least a group of multi-instrumentalists!”
