The sounds of Baroque music geniuses invite you on an unforgettable journey, where the masterpieces of cello music will come to life. Under the direction of Mindaugas Bačkus, the Klaipėda Chamber Orchestra will be joined on stage by some of today’s most acclaimed cellists. Among them are a Grammy nominee, laureates of international competitions, and professors from the world’s most prestigious universities. A refined program and the elite of the music world will present a memorable celebration of cello music!
The singing voice of the cello, an essential part of the most remarkable pages of music history, did not immediately earn its right to take center stage as a solo instrument. It all began in the Baroque era when the cello emerged from the shadow of its predecessor, the viola da gamba. The evening’s program features concertos for cello by Baroque music geniuses, including the Venetian master Antonio Vivaldi, composer of more than 500 instrumental concertos, and Leonardo Leo, founder of the Neapolitan compositional school. The program also includes works by Giovanni Benedetto Platti, who lived and composed in Würzburg, and Luigi Boccherini, a representative of the galant style of the Classical era and one of the most renowned cello virtuosos and composers of his time.
These works will be performed with the Klaipėda Chamber Orchestra by some of today’s most distinguished cellists. Enrico Bronzi, a professor at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg, maintains an active solo career and collaborates with artists such as Martha Argerich, Gidon Kremer, and Joshua Bell, having performed under the batons of Claudio Abbado, Christoph Eschenbach, Tan Dun, and others. Denis Severin is a professor of cello at the Geneva–Neuchâtel University of Music and the Bern University of the Arts. In 2015, he received the Echo Klassik award, was nominated for a Grammy in 2007, and in 2018 became a laureate of the International Classical Music Awards (ICMA), also winning several international competitions. Pavel Serbin, a specialist in early music interpretation, plays both the cello and viola da gamba. He is a laureate of multiple competitions, including the Premio Bonporti in Italy, the Van Wassenaer Competition in the Netherlands, and the Bruges Early Music Competition in Belgium. As a soloist and ensemble musician, he performs worldwide.
