Klaipėda Cultural Communication Centre will be transformed into a maze of mysterious 3D and virtual reality environments, inviting you to explore and discover the unexpected. This week’s star – the cello – will take on extraordinary new forms and offer a unique and interactive experience you won’t want to miss.
A multimedia installation that reimagines the violoncello through the lens of digital technologies. Visitors are invited to embark on a multisensory journey featuring AI-generated reinterpretations of classical cello masterpieces and captivating computer-generated visuals, with the cello as the protagonist. Equipped with VR headsets, the audience can also step into a fully immersive digital realm, where a transfigured violoncello embodies new forms and meanings. In a world increasingly dominated by the digital, this exhibition explores the intersection between a handcrafted wooden instrument—resonating with centuries of tradition—and disruptive digital technologies. This dialogue, or impossible coexistence, invites reflection on the evolving relationship between heritage and the future. Berlin-based cellist and multimedia artist David Fernández uses this work to expose the contradictions we face in our rapidly changing world. Through a playful yet provocative vision, the cello becomes an abstraction, a self-contained universe, a powerful symbol of our humanity as it is reshaped by the digital revolution. How much of our essence will remain in this digital transformation?
David Fernández (Spain 1976) is a Berlin-based cellist, stage director, and multimedia artist whose work reimagines classical music through bold, experimental approaches. Trained as a dancer, actor, and cellist in Spain, Fernández integrates movement, music, and cutting-edge technology to create works that transcend traditional boundaries. His artistic range spans symphonic creations (Berliner Phil, Elb Phil, Alter Oper Frankfurt, etc.) intimate solo improvisations, and multimedia installations, always maintaining a deep connection to classical music. Acclaimed by the Spanish press for his theatrical works, Fernández has led over twenty five productions with his company and fulfilled numerous commissions, blending technical innovation with a radical artistic vision. Since 2011, Fernández has been an integral part of Berlin’s vibrant classical music scene, with his solo project Ecce Cello, and as a founding member of the Stegreif Orchester, exploring innovative interpretations and ways of performing classical music.
